Early Years Foundation Stage
In September 2008, all nurseries will follow the governments new Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) which covers the learning and well being of all nursery aged children from birth to 5 years.
The Early Learning Goals are:
• Personal, social and emotional development
• Language, literacy and communication
• Problem solving, reasoning and numeracy
• Knowledge and understanding of the world
• Physical development
• Creative development
The EYFS guiding principles are:
• A unique child
• Positive relationships
• Enabling Environments
• Learning & development
Weekly plans are available in each play room for you see.
Since children learn through play, we encourage the children to use a variety of materials and provide them with a wide range of experiences. For example, the children love to play on the computer, choosing their own educational fun game and learning to load their own software.
Favourite activities are often puzzles, games, creative work, construction toys, clay, sand, water, musical instruments, role play, nature experiences, dance, drama and physical play.
Planting and growing things in the garden is also a fun and learning experience for the children.
We also use materials and ingredients in cooking activities that reflect the multi-cultural and linguistic background of the children in the Nursery and encourage our children to understand the diversity of experiences and materials in use in multi-racial Britain.
Our dressing up clothes for the children, dolls puzzles, and books also reflect this.
Our links with the crèche in South Africa will add to the children's learning experience and teach them about different cultures and about caring and sharing with others.
At Leo's Den nursery we will help to raise funds to give the children in South Africa the chance to enjoy some of the equipment and toys that our children are able to enjoy every day.
We aim to bring the children together through letters, photos and by sharing information of the different cultures and settings at circle time.
We will be cooking multi-cultural food and give the children a chance to taste food from around the world.
All in all we want your child to enjoy coming to the nursery and to join in with the fun and learning experience that we enjoy every day.
